PFEI Fund

 Professors’ Fund For Educational Issues

The Independent Fund sponsored by Higher Education Faculty for Higher Education Faculty

Dear Colleague,

Now, more than ever, we must to stand together to preserve the rights and the voice of the academy. The situations in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Ohio have brought Academic Freedom, shared governance and collective bargaining to our knees. We must respond to these attacks on the pillars of public higher education with a united, persistent message.

The Professors’ Fund For Educational Issues (PFEI), which was established in 1990, provides grants to faculty that may be used to successfully champion
academic rights and professional issues. Over 75 grants totaling more than $26,000 have been given out.

Grants cover essentially all aspects of higher education: research, educational methods, faculty governance, academic freedom, status of women and minorities, newsletters, and events. The money provided through PFEI grants allow recipients to work on behalf of all faculty and better champion the rights in which we all
believe.

PFEI is supported solely by donations, all of which are tax-‐exempt for Federal income tax purposes. We work closely with the Michigan Conference of AAUP, which provides staff support. This allows 100% of your contribution to go directly to grant recipients.  I am writing to ask for a donation to this fund at this time.

The Board of Directors of PFEI expresses its great appreciation to those who have donated in the past and encourages those who would like to participate in protecting the important principles of faculty governance and academic freedom here in Michigan to contribute now.

A donation of $25 or more makes you a member of PFEI for the 2011-‐12 year and eligible to vote at the 2012 Annual Meeting of PFEI. Please make checks payable to PFEI and mail to the MI-‐AAUP Michigan office, 33-‐B E. Cross St., Ypsilanti, MI 48198.

Thank you,

Joel W. Russell President, PFEI
